Living In Paris

Everyone knows that Paris, France’s famous capital, is one of the world’s most beautiful and romantic places.

Paris is in the Ile-de-France region, north of France, at the foot of the River Seine. It is sometimes called the “city with a 100 villages”. It has about 20 districts.

The weather in Paris is very temperate, with no major highs or lows. Its weather is influenced by the North Atlantic Drift, which is one reason for its sudden rain showers. Rainfall can happen at any time, so strictly speaking there is no isolated “rainy season”. However, it rarely sees snowfall, and that usually happens January or February, its coldest months. The snowfall is very light, however, and rarely is it strong enough for the snow to last more than 24 hours.

Tourist Accomodations

All hotels are conveniently located in the center of the city. You can quite easily walk to a subway station. Tourists won’t have trouble finding hotels, since they (over 2,000 of them!) are all quite beautiful. There are various types of hotels with different price ranges.

Champagne and Wine

France’s champagne and wine are famous so don’t miss out on an opportunity to savor these vintages. You should also schedule a trip to the famous vineyards, such as Moet & Chandon. You can arrange for a trip to visit the grave of Dom Perignon, normally credited as the father of champagne. It is found in the village of Hautvilliers. Eparnay is called the capital of Champagne because it is surrounded by the world’s most renowned vineyards. There are 20, 000 hectares of vineyards that cluster around it, with 200 million bottles of champagne ageing in 120 kilometers of cellars underneath.

Attractions

Paris has many museums and monuments. Be sure to visit the famous Louvre. After going around to see its arts and culture don’t forget to schedule a shopping tour. In Paris, you’ll find many sidewalks lined with boutiques and stores. Paris is a fashion capital and everywhere you look there are designer clothes from big labels like Emporio Armani, Louis Vuitton, and Hermes. Paris is also home to the headquarters of many international organizations such as UNESCO, the OECD, the ICC, or the Paris Club.

Finding Property In France

You have finally decided to buy property in France. You want to invest in a vacation home here, or have plans of eventually retiring in this beautiful country. But where and how do you begin your search for the perfect French property for your needs?

The first question to ask is whether you will be researching from your home or taking a trip to France. It’s more efficient to start your “legwork” before taking a trip, so that most of your time in France is spent looking at the homes or areas that most interest you. Many house buyers bring a list of houses they want to see, or arrange a tour through a real estate agent before actually boarding the plane.

There are several ways to review the French property for sale. Try looking at the property magazines or newspapers which act like a directory of houses and lots. You’ll find places of all types, styles and descriptions, in all regions of France. You can also browse through property or lifestyle websites. The web is an excellent resource for buying property. Just be wary of people who are trying to look for a fast buck. In the cyber world the maxim “caveat emptor” (let the buyer beware) holds true.

But the web has one benefit over property magazines and that it is that it lists the most current available properties. You may not be able to get that kind of accurate information from magazines. Look for websites that are up to date. You should also search for independent databases of properties for sale, which will organize the houses and lots according to region, size and price. You can also approach French associations of estate agents and notaries which have their own directories of property for sale.

You may also consider attending French property exhibitions which often have the most comprehensive selection of houses. These are often advertised in French property magazines so watch out for any announcements and schedule your trip accordingly. You can also find bargain property, the ones that have not been widely marketed, at the notary websites. They may not be listed in the books of estate agents and commission fees are lower

Buying Property in the Aquitaine Region of France

You may have heard of the Aquitaine region of France which is popular for its beautiful beaches and superb wine. Aquitaine was given that name by the Romans, who fell in love with the rivers (aqua means water) that ran through its land

Aquitaine is found in South West France, and is a great place to find a home I you want to relocate to this area.

Somer regions within Aquitaine are Dordogne, Gironde and Lot-et-Garonne. but probably the most famous place within this region is Bordeaux, which is at the heart of the Gironde. Bordeaux is where many fine wines are made. It is found in the center of Gironde which is home to about half a million inhabitants. It’s located at the heart of south-west France. Aside from the wine it is famous for neoclassical architecture and large, well kept town centre. Bordeaux also has very picturesque boulevards as well as well maintained parks. The ambience is reminiscent of the 18th century.

Bordeaux was first settled by the Romans in the 3rd century BC. In 1450 the English took over and helped develop the wine industry. By far the most popular and widely known of the many wines produced in this area is Claret, a red wine.

If easy access from the UK is important to you, you should be reassured that the region has an extensive travel network. Bordeaux is now linked by TGV to Paris. And airlines such as Air France and British Airways have regular flights into Bordeaux from the UK.

Bordeaux is part of the Gironde region. Gironde is the biggest of the ‘departments’ or areas within Aquitaine. It has more than 2,000 miles of rivers and 70 miles of beautiful coastline. More than one million people live here. It was named after the estuary shaped by by two rivers, the Dordogne and the Garonne. Summers here are quite warm, and winters are generally mild. There are a lot of traditional villages in this region, many of which are found nestled in acres of vineyards.

But there is also a little-known inland sea in this region, which has the largest beach in the whole of Europe here? This body of water, called Bassin d’Arcachon, produces more than 80% of France’s mussels.
